Treasures

We’ve framed some fascinating memorabilia over the years, from an antique huia feather to a car registration plate that held special memories. Framing objects protects them from the elements, such as light, moisture, insects and pollutants. It also means that personal items can be beautifully displayed on the wall rather than being tucked away in a drawer.

When you come to us with something for framing we will work with you on creating the look you want. This will involve choosing the frame, the background behind the object and how it is placed. For example, you may have several items that you want to arrange in a grouping. Then we will talk to you about how the object is mounted. For something that is valuable we ensure that anything we do is reversible. Medals are a good example of this. We stitch the medals onto the backing matboard so that they are held invisibly and can be removed without causing any damage. We use a box frame which allows for more space so the glass is spaced away from the medals. We recommend using UV protective glass for any objects that are valuable and prone to deterioration from light.

Fabrics

Fabrics can look amazing framed and under glass.  Some are artworks in their own right, others are memorabilia or hand-made crafts. We frame:

  • cross-stitches and tapestries
  • t-shirts and sport jerseys
  • tea-towels
  • antique samplers
  • contemporary fabric artworks
  • christening gowns

We use conservation techniques which means that everything we do is reversible.  So cross-stitches are laced before framing to keep them straight and tensioned. Items of clothing are stitched or pinned onto their backings so they can be removed if wished.  We use box frames so that the glass is spaced away from the fabric which prevents the threads from being flattened.

Kids Art

Paintings by children are transformed by professional framing. We like to use contemporary frames that let the artwork do the talking. Modern white frames work particularly well as children’s art is often full of bright colours. So why not get all those precious artworks out of the drawer and frame them for posterity.

For framing on a budget ask about our ready-made frames for A3 and A4 artworks. The artwork can be swapped around which is perfect if your child is a prolific artist.

Mirrors

Use mirrors to bring light, space and style to your home

The mirrors available in furniture stores can be really limiting.  Did you know that we can design a truly individual mirror just for you?

It’s as easy as giving us the size you want your mirror to be, as we make every one to order.  Then you choose the frame from our selection of quality mouldings.  We have a wide variety from the spectacularly ornate to the sleek  and contemporary.  If you can’t decide just ask if you can take a sample of your favourites home so you can see how they will look at your place.

The extra detail of a beveled edge adds more grandeur to a mirror.  We can organise this for you if you want your mirror to be really special.  Once you order your mirror we can generally have it ready for you in 2 – 3 weeks.
